Watch Breeders on Hulu – Breeders explores the paradox experienced by nearly all parents, the willingness to die for one’s children coupled with the near-constant desire to kill them.

Paul is a caring father who discovers he’s not quite the man he thought he was.

Watch Breeders on Hulu – His partner, Ally, runs a recording studio, makes Paul laugh and has the ability to read a story to their children while she’s technically asleep.

In this honest and uncompromising comedy, Paul and Ally are juggling full-time careers, aging parents, a mortgage, upheavals in their relationship and the unenviable curveballs of parenting their young children, Luke and Ava.

When Ally’s estranged father Michael appears on their doorstep, the family essentially takes on a third child three quarters of the time, but this one comes with baggage and opinions.

Watch Breeders on Hulu – Paul’s own parents, Jackie and Jim, are on hand to help out, but their generation does parenting a little differently.

Breeders on Hulu Plot

Peter Worsley (Martin Freeman) and his wife Ally (Daisy Haggard) are like most modern parents; they both work and they’re both tired and frazzled as hell.

But, while Ally seems to be taking the stress of raising seven-year-old Luke (George Wakeman) and four-year-old Ava (Jayda Eyles) in relative stride — she can read Ava The Very Hungry Caterpillar while mostly asleep — Martin’s not handling it as well, and he knows it.

On the surface, the London-based comedy relies on a far more traditional picture-perfect set-up.

The Worsleys are a white middle-class nuclear family. Father Paul (Martin Freeman) has the unconditional support of his slightly befuddled parents, while Ally (Daisy Haggard) has a cushy recording studio job that sends her on all-expenses-paid weekly trips to Berlin.

Breeders was co-created by Chris Addison, Simon Blackwell and Freeman, and everyone on their writing staff is a parent.

That helps, because all modern parents know the joys and pains of raising kids, especially young ones.

You love your kids to death, want to give them the best life possible, but boy do they try your patience.

And some of the dark takes on Peter’s rage, and both Peter and Ally’s dark senses of humor when it comes to their kids, is pretty spot on.

The show is at its best when Peter and Ally are dealing with their kids and all of the bullcrap that goes with being parents, including trying to get both of their kids into the “right” school, which is the main topic of the second episode.

You feel both of their frustrations, and sorta kinda understand why Peter might fly off the handle in front of his kids from time to time.

Breeders pulls no punches when it comes to the difficulties of being parents in this day and age, where every website and Facebook group is bombarding you with parenting advice and you just want to make sure your kids grow up into decent people.
