Netflix Series

netflix-series

Netflix is an American global Internet streaming-on-demand media provider that has distributed a number of original streaming television programs, including original Netflix Series, specials, miniseries, and documentaries and films.

Netflix’s original productions also include continuations of cancelled series from other networks, as well as licensing or co-producing content from international broadcasters for exclusive broadcast in other territories, which is also branded in those regions as Netflix original content. Netflix previously produced content through Red Envelope Entertainment.

The first original Netflix Series was House of Cards, released in 2013. The company has since increased its original content. All programming is in English unless stated otherwise, is organized by its primary genre or format, and is sorted by premiere date.

Netflix, a powerhouse in the streaming industry, has revolutionized entertainment consumption since its inception in 1997.

From its roots as a DVD rental service to its current dominance as a global streaming giant, Netflix has redefined how audiences engage with streaming content.

How Netflix Started

Founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph as a mail-in DVD rental service, Netflix swiftly adapted to the digital age, launching its streaming service in 2007.

By 2017, Netflix was available in more than 190 countries worldwide, in 21 languages, and reaching 100 million subscribers.

Since then, award-winning original content and forays into in-person events and gaming have helped fuel Netflix’s rise (and price hikes). Netflix has not only disrupted home entertainment, but also continues to shape the evolving streaming and digital video landscape.

Netflix Subscriptions

At Netflix’s core is a subscription-based model, offering a vast library of video content for a monthly fee.

The evolution of Netflix’s subscription structure has been instrumental in its global outreach, adapting to diverse markets by offering tiered pricing options (ranging in the US from its ad-supported plan for $6.99 per month to the standard plan for $15.49 and premium for $22.99) as well as localized content. In summer 2023, Netflix discontinued its Basic tier for new subscribers in Canada, the US, and the UK and expanded that phaseout in 2024.

  • Netflix’s US subscription revenues will reach $14.52 billion in 2024, up from $13.58 billion in 2023, per a December 2023 EMARKETER forecast.
  • EMARKETER expects Netflix’s subscription OTT ad-free viewers to decline each year until the end of the forecast period, sliding 1.8% in 2024 and 0.3% in 2027, according to a February 2024 forecast.
  • This dip is largely due to the lure of more affordable ad-supported subscription options. In fact, 32% of US adults are watching subscription video-on-demand services less because they are watching more on free streaming services, per a July 2023 Aluma Insights survey.

Netflix Series Viewer Habits

Interestingly, a survey exploring the behavior of Netflix viewers with pets found that a total of 12 percent of respondents admitted that they had stopped viewing a show because their pet did not like it, and 22 percent had bribed their pet with treats in a bid to encourage the animal to watch the show or movie for longer.

Such behavior may seem strange to some, but with Netflix available to watch on multiple devices and in any location, consumers inevitably have and will continue to tailor their viewing experience to their preferences, needs, and lifestyles.

Some U.S. adults have even admitted to watching TV and movies in public restrooms, and with Netflix retaining its title as the undisputed market leader when it comes to video streaming it’s safe to assume that some of these bathroom binge viewers are Netflix customers, too.

The “What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report,” released twice a year, provides a glimpse into global viewing preferences and highlights the most popular series and film titles, whether they are new, old, licensed, or original.

Its latest version, with data from July 2023 to December 2023, covers more than 18,000 titles and nearly 100 billion hours viewed, and includes metrics per title, such as hours viewed, availability worldwide, and release date.

The viewing data underscores how Netflix’s licensing strategy is crucial to its bottom line, in addition to its ability to draw target audiences because of its position as a powerhouse platform—not solely because of its content offering.

Around 45% of total watch time across Netflix’s titles were licensed, as well as 30% of the top 100, according to Puck and Variety.

The most viewed titles were “King the Land: Limited Series” (630.2 million hours), “ONE PIECE: Season 1” (541.9 million hours), and “Sex Education: Season 4” (374.7 million hours).

Non-English stories generated nearly a third of all viewing.

Time Spent Versus Ad Spend on Netflix

An outlier among streaming companies, Netflix doesn’t rely very much on ad revenues as of January 2024, signaling a huge opportunity for the platform considering its extensive hold on viewer engagement.

Despite generating only 2.5% of US CTV ad revenues in 2023, Netflix captured more than one-fifth of streaming time spent, per EMARKETER’s US CTV Time Spent vs. Ad Spending 2023 report.

Its measured approach is deliberate. “We’re still in the crawl of the crawl, walk, run stage,” Netflix CFO Spencer Neumann said at a conference in September 2023. “We have to scale the reach of our ads tier.”

“I think I’m super bullish and confident in the long-term opportunity of advertising as a big incremental revenue and profit contributor to the business, but we do have to build it over time,” Neumann said.

Netflix’s share of time spent will remain stable over the next couple of years, accounting in 2024 and 2025 for around 6.9% of total time spent with digital media and 8.4% of total time spent with TV and video.

Active US users will spend an average of 1 hour and four minutes per day with Netflix in 2024, according to EMARKETER’s June 2024 forecast.

How Many Subscribers Does Netflix Have

In 2024, there will be 179.4 million US Netflix viewers (or 52.5% of the population), per a February 2024 EMARKETER forecast. Millennials will make up the largest percentage of Netflix viewers, at 52.2 million (or 29.1% of the population).

This year, 13.0 million people in the US will be subscribers to Netflix’s ad-supported plan in 2024.

Netflix Series – Watch The Business of Drugs

Former CIA analyst Amaryllis Fox investigates the economics of six illegal substances, show how drugs push people into risky behaviors.

The Business of Drugs, a six-part series Fox hosts on Netflix, takes a clear-eyed approach to the futility of drug enforcement. The Business of Drugs examines the incentives, economic and personal, that keep the market flow of narcotics churning despite a generational trail of violence and waste.

Declared in 1971 by Richard Nixon, the “war on drugs” refers broadly to the federal government’s campaign to control psychoactive substances through draconian legislation, expansion of enforcement agencies, and military aid and intervention to other countries.

Drug enforcement policies have long served as cudgels against minority groups – the first anti-opium laws, in the 1870s, targeted Chinese immigrants; anti-cannabis measures in the 1910s and 20s aimed for Mexican workers – and the current iteration grows from these roots.

There may be only two ways to stop the exhaustive and unending war on drugs: end demand, or legalize and regulate with fair competition. Demand, largely from the US and western Europe, won’t be going away, which leaves policy. And, as long as the reward is high enough that the economic reality is that the business of drugs will continue and grow.

Nearly 50 years and $1 trillion in, the business of drug prohibition has not only not worked, but the problem is worse than it was when the policy began.

The miniseries premiered on Netflix on 30 January 2020.

Follows the lives of suburban families whose secrets and lies are made public by the appearance of a stranger.

The Stranger into an eight-part series, starring The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage. Armitage will lead the upcoming psychological thriller – and given that the British actor is no, umm, stranger to nail-biting TV mysteries, famously playing MI5 agent Lucas North in BBC1’s Spooks, it sounds like pretty perfect casting.

The premise places a blackmailing stranger — played by Hannah John-Kamen (Killjoys, Game of Thrones, The Tunnel) — at the core of controversy, as she attempts to eradicate lies and expose secrets for money.

She has a pained passion for executing these exposures with her business partner, Ingrid Prisby, played by Lily Loveless (The Royals, The Great War: The People’s Story, Skins).

The Netflix DocuSeries Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes

Oscar-nominated director Joe Berlinger pieces together archival footage and audio recordings of Bundy that were made while he was on death row to provide the unique perspective of hearing the killer analyze his own life and motives.

Ted Bundy was one of America’s most notorious serial killers.

Notorious serial killer Ted Bundy was unique in that he ultimately didn’t confess to his crimes—which include the murder of at least 30 women—until days before his execution.

Thirty years after Bundy’s 1989 execution, this docuseries brings viewers into the mind of the criminal known as the “Jack Ripper of the United States.”

More than 100 hours of interviews were used to create this four-part series.

So the four-part docuseries Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes pulls from an interview series in which Bundy agreed to speak in the third person, analyzing the kind of person who may have committed the crimes attributed to him.

The tapes themselves honestly don’t provide too much insight, but Berlinger’s documentary does.

He interviews only those who interacted with Bundy in person and chronicles the killer’s life and crimes, juxtaposing them with the lies Bundy often told about himself and his upbringing.

It’s an engrossing watch that gives ample voice to Bundy’s victims while also explaining how Bundy was able to elude authorities for so long.

He was convicted in the deaths of more than 30 women before being caught in 1978.

An accidental killing leads a man down a dark hole of intrigue and murder; just as he finds love and freedom, a phone call brings back the nightmare.

The Innocent Man. So while the popularity of this particular story precedes the docuseries, but it doesn’t make the show any less worthwhile.

Indeed, Grisham is an on-camera participant in the six-episode investigation, which not only recounts a truly stranger-than-fiction tale of two murders and potentially false convictions in a small Oklahoma town, but also offers an insightful, wildly compelling, and infuriating account of the human cost when the U.S. justice system fails.

The Netflix DocuSeries The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story

The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story is the first season of the FX true crime anthology television series American Crime Story.

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson brings top-shelf writing, directing, and acting to bear on a still-topical story while shedding further light on the facts — and provoking passionate responses along the way.

Watching “The People v OJ Simpson,” you likely wondered if OJ Simpson (Cuba Gooding Jr.), Johnnie Cochran (Courtney B. Vance), Marcia Clark (Sarah Paulson) and Christopher Darden (Sterling K. Brown) really said some of the amazing lines the script put in their mouths.

According to Jeffrey Toobin’s “The Run of His Life: The People v OJ Simpson” — and other sources to fact check some of the most outrageous moments and statements on the show here is what was found:

Johnnie Cochran really did utter the rebuke, “N—– please,” to Chris Darden. It came after an argument about whether the defense could question Det. Mark Fuhrman about his use of the N-word, according to Jeffrey Toobin’s book, “The Run of His Life,” which inspired FX’s “The People v OJ Simpson.”

Chris Darden really did tell Marcia Clark she looked good in the topless vacation photos unearthed by a sleazy tabloid.

A supermarket clerk really did joke to Marcia Clark, as she was buying Tampax, that it was going to be a rough week for the defense.

OJ Simpson really did yell at Chris Darden to “Get off my bench,” according to Darden.

Time Magazine really did darken OJ Simpson’s skin for its cover. The magazine apologized.

A look at the history of classic video games, featuring insights from the innovators who brought these worlds and characters to life.

The six-episode Netflix DocuSeries High Score is one of the best documentaries Netflix has made thus far.

The Netflix DocuSeries High Score takes an in-depth look at the origin story of video games as we know them, as told by the people who made them.

he Netflix DocuSeries High Score begins with a deep-dive into the shift from arcade games to in-home consoles and chronicles everything from the game-changing arrival of the NES to how Sega built a strategy to challenge Nintendo.

This is far more in-depth and candid than you’re likely expecting, and when you finish you’ll be begging for a second season that gets into N64 and beyond.

High Score presents video games as a great equalizer: a boundless medium where the limits are only a single person’s imagination, an art form where who you are does not matter, whether you make these adventures or play them.

It does not have any interest in exploring the gatekeepers, inside and out of the industry, who have made this vision as simplistic as it is wrong.

In this, the series undermines the goodwill garnered by its focus on the marginalized, glossing over the fact that they are notable in spite of an industry that actively excluded them.

In the fall of 1997, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls allowed a film crew to follow them as they went for their sixth NBA title in eight seasons.

The 10-part docuseries follows the Jordan timeline from when he was an emerging star on his high school team to becoming a worldwide marketing force and cultural figure.

The series takes its name from a phrase coined by then-Bulls coach Phil Jackson, who knew that the season would likely be the final run for the core members of that 1990s Bulls dynasty.

James Beard Award-winning chef David Chang stars in this travelogue that sends him on a journey to culinary hot spots around the world.

David Chang is joined by writers, activists, artists and other chefs who use food as a vehicle to break down cultural barriers and tackle misconceptions.

Chang and his guests — a list that includes the likes of TV host Jimmy Kimmel, comic Nick Kroll and writer Peter Meehan — venture out of polished kitchens into the wider world to explore locales including Houston, Tokyo and Copenhagen.

Food is culture. That’s kind of the central premise of the Netflix documentary series Ugly Delicious, which is part food show, part travelogue, and part documentary.

The show’s eight-episode first season delves deep into foods like pizza, barbecue, and tacos as host/executive producer/world-renowned chef David Chang investigates what makes a pizza a pizza, or what technically constitutes a taco.

But quickly, the show hit upon the idea of charting culture through food—how does a traditional pizza made in Naples become a Domino’s pizza? What does pizza mean to the people of Italy vs. the people ordering delivery?

This offered a means to explore not just how the food changes from place to place, but who the people are in each place, and why they eat the food they eat.

That idea is expanded even further in the show’s second season, as it explores themes of parenthood, how displacement affects food culture, and the shifting nature of what a “steak dinner” means to people. This is great viewing but beware: it’ll make you hungry.

Overall, the documentary focuses on Juan Catalan, who was accused of a murder he didn’t commit and the lengths he had to go to in order to prove his innocence.

While our justice system likes to tout that the accused are “innocent until proven guilty,” Long Shot shows in its brief runtime that the truth is just the opposite.

Despite the flimsy evidence against Catalan, he had to be extraordinarily lucky to prove his innocence and that we have a system that incentivizes detectives and prosecutors simply to close cases rather than find justice.

The brilliant thing about Long Shot is that it never has to come right out and say it. The case speaks volumes on its own.

The Netflix Documentary Abducted in Plain Sight

In this true crime documentary, a family falls prey to the manipulative charms of a neighbor, who abducts their adolescent daughter.

The twisting, turning, stranger-than-fiction true story of the Brobergs, a naive, church-going Idaho family that fell under the spell of a sociopathic neighbor with designs on their twelve-year-old daughter.

In 1974, 12-year-old Jan Broberg is abducted from a small church-going community in Idaho by a trusted neighbor and close family friend.

Abducted in Plain Sight is the story of how the seemingly perfect Broberg family was nearly destroyed, singlehandedly, in the mid-’70s by a sociopathic neighbor, Bob “B” Berchtold, who was obsessed with their 12-year-old daughter.

That’s just the setup, which is tragic enough without getting into the truly insane aspects of the story.

The Netflix Documentary Amanda Knox

The Netflix original documentary Amanda Knox is a deeply fascinating watch.

On the morning of November 2nd, 2007, 21-year-old British exchange student Meredith Kercher was found dead on the floor in the house she had been sharing with three other women in Perugia, Italy.

Kercher’s throat had been slit; she was lying in a pool of blood and covered with a duvet. One of her roommates, 20-year-old Seattle native and fellow study-abroad student Amanda Knox, notified the authorities after allegedly arriving home from sleeping at her new boyfriend’s house.

She’d discovered the front door open, blood on the bathroom floor, and unknown feces in the toilet. (Kercher’s other two roommates, both Italian, were away at the time, and Kercher was not responding to knocks on her locked bedroom door.)

She was twice convicted and acquitted of murder. Amanda Knox and the people closest to her case speak out in this illuminating documentary.

Framed by exclusive interviews with the titular subject herself, as well as those intimately involved in the case, Amanda Knox chronicles the murder of Knox’s roommate and the subsequent investigation, trials, and appeals regarding her apparent involvement.

But beyond simply going into detail about the case, the film is also a searing indictment of the media’s inherent misogyny, and how public perception when it comes to women and sex can be skewed tremendously.

The Twelve on Netflix

Twelve ordinary people are called for jury duty for a murder case as traumatizing as it is controversial in which a woman stands trial for killing her own blood.

Most of the time when you see a courtroom drama, the jury consists of twelve extras who don’t have speaking parts.

They’re mainly faceless and there is no indication of what their lives are like.

But the new Flemish drama The Twelve turns this format inside out and shows what each juror is going through in his or her life in order to show what biases and other experiences play into their observations and verdict.

The man is the lawyer for the woman, Frie Palmers (Maaike Cafmeyer). She’s on trial for two murders, eighteen years apart.

The first one was the Jan 1, 2000 murder of her best friend, Brechtje Vindevogel (Lynn Van Royen), the second is the death of her 2-year-old daughter Roos (Estelle Sys) in 2016.

The proceedings, dubbed “The Millennium Trial,” has created a media buzz in Belgium, especially in the Flemish city of Ghent, where the trial takes place.

The Twelve looks at the criminal justice system in a way we generally haven’t seen before.

We get to see the inner and outer lives of the members of the jury as the trial goes on, to see what biases and life experiences they bring to the conference table when listening to evidence against Frie and figuring out whether she’s guilty.

It’s the early 1980s, and the spirit of innovation in personal computing is about to catch fire. Hot on the trail is a renegade trio — a visionary, an engineer and a prodigy — who risk everything to realize their vision of building a computer that can change the future.

Not long after IBM corners the market with its flagship PC, a flaw is discovered in its operation, opening the door for competition. In steps Joe MacMillan, a former IBM executive who now works for Cardiff Electric. MacMillan plans to reverse-engineer IBM’s technology, putting Cardiff in the thick of the personal computer race. The owner of a successful interior design business and the mother of four children, Debra had everything—except romantic love. So maybe that’s why Debra overlooked Meehan’s slightly strange behavior, like showing up for their formal date inexplicably wearing hospital scrubs, or saying all his clothes had been stolen.

Or maybe she overlooked Meehan’s strangeness because, after years of conning, Meehan was an expert at making people do precisely that. Meehan had a history of manipulating and abusing women, with a criminal track record to show for it. Unwittingly, Debra Newell and her family were Meehan’s latest target.

Organized crime and the Organized Crime Unit (OCU) work together to achieve the opposing goals of each respective world.

Set in Vancouver, and created by Chris Haddock (Da Vinci’s Inquest), it is dryly funny and an insightful series about organized crime and the career cops who watch and manipulate the criminals.

Specifically, it’s about the grey areas where the watchers connive and the watched are highly aware. It’s about doing business (legal or criminal) from an us (Canada) versus them (US) perspective.

In the series, Vancouver is the nerve center for trade in everything between Canada, the United States and Asia.

There is small-time crime, major international crime and, mostly, the dangerous trade in information about who is vulnerable.

Nobody trusts anyone else. Information is gold. Who’s watching, who’s scamming whom and where’s the payoff? Nobody, neither cops nor under-pressure criminals, is safe.

Jimmy Reardon (Ian Tracey) is at the centre of it all. A career criminal from a family of criminals, he has a company to run.

He’s the CEO and he has a drug-addicted ex-wife, a vulnerable kid, a dumb brother and a lot of vicious rivals.

He’s just trying to grow the business, mind you. Keep people employed, meet the payroll and look for new opportunities.

The business involves drugs, grow-ops and a strip club, but it’s still just a business.

unsolved-on-netflix

Netflix Series – Unsolved

A scripted true crime series based on the murder investigations of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.

Unsolved serves as a detailed, time-jumping, and exploratory journey into multiple, years-long investigations, but it isn’t a nuanced take on the criminal justice system (or nuanced at all, for that matter). Nor is “Unsolved” a human story meant to honor the victims or the men seeking justice for their deaths. It plays out like a mystery, and by the end of the seventh episode (out of 10 total), “The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G.” takes a stand behind one theory.

Telling three stories at once, “Unsolved” makes it easy to pick favorites. First, there’s the story of Biggie and Tupac. Involving a lot of big names who don’t look as much like their real-life counterparts as Marcc Rose does Tupac (who also played Shakur in “Straight Outta Compton”), it’s the storyline that’s most easy to engage with, followed closely by the LAPD’s initial 1997 investigation into their murders. Simpson plays Detective Russell Poole, a homicide cop who gets too deeply invested in the case, but the actor slowly rolls out Poole’s mannerisms slowly and specifically, making his obsession look and feel legitimate. You’re as frustrated as he is, which can’t be said for the 2006 arc focusing on Det. Greg Kading (Josh Duhamel) and Det. Daryn Dupree (Bokeem Woodbine).

Motivated by a massive lawsuit pending against the police department from Christopher Wallace’s mom, Kading is tasked with solving the unsolvable case in order to save the city $400 million. Predictably, he hits a lot of walls, and the progress he does make isn’t all that interesting until the very end.

Netflix-Series-Collateral

Netflix Series – Collateral

The BBC-produced crime drama series Collateral is unique for a few reasons.

One, it’s a crime show featuring a female lead. Two, it’s a close-ended four-hour story.

And three, it actually delights in nuance instead of simply following a standard procedural format.

Hailing from writer David Hare (The Hours) and director SJ Clarkson (Jessica Jones), the story follows Carey Mulligan as a confident detective in London who’s tasked with investigating the murder of a pizza delivery man, who may be an immigrant or refugee.

But a simple murder investiagtion reveals a web of intrigue, and a cadre of characers enter the frame that dimensionalize the entire story.

Thematically, the story digs deep into issues of immigration and racial tensions in a post-Brexit England, but it is not without flashes of joy and humor, so in total it’s an entertaining and meaty watch.

Hinterland-on-netflix

Hinterland on Netflix

A noir crime drama set in Aberystwyth, Wales, where troubled DCI Tom Mathias solves murders while searching for redemption.

Hinterland is a homicide investigator with a troubled soul forsakes London for the pastoral landscapes of Wales, where his new job places him in a strange world.

The title of the cop series “Hinterland” refers to its location, a windy and rugged stretch of coast in western Wales, an out-of-the-way part of an out-of-the-way country.

A big-city detective, Mathias (Richard Harrington), arrives in the backwater for mysterious reasons, much like Alec Hardy of “Broadchurch.”

He solves murders while jousting with both his uptight boss and his right-hand woman, Rhys (Mali Harries), who joins a long line of testy but loyal female sidekicks including Hardy’s Detective Sergeant Miller, Inspector Lynley’s D.S. Havers and Constable Travis of “Above Suspicion.”

The mysteries themselves, involving a murdered woman who once ran a reform school or a murdered man with links to Nazi prisoners of war, are routine in the British mode.

That’s to say they’re complicated and pedantic by American standards, with a minimum of action (and virtually no gunplay) and a maximum of old-fashioned clues, which are often found the second or third time a room is searched.

Paranoid

When a GP is murdered, detectives Bobby Day, Nina Suresh and Alec Wayfield embark on what seems to be a simple murder investigation – but is far from it.

The murder of a female GP in a rural playground in front of numerous witnesses draws a group of detectives into an ever-darkening mystery that takes them across Europe, aided by mysterious notes sent by the “Ghost Detective”.

Paranoid opens with the seemingly random murder of a woman at a playground.

Of course, it is not random, even though the case is solved in fairly short order to the satisfaction of DI Niles from the fictional town of Woodmere.

Fortunately, the three detectives actually working the case are harder to convince than their boss.

There is also a mystery helper – or is it the killer? – sending messages to the team.

The case is reopened; the investigation continues as a series of connections broadens and complicates the hunt.

The detectives are Nina Suresh (Indira Varma) Bobby Day (Robert Glenister), and Alec Wayfield (Dino Fetscher). They each have issues that hold them back from being as successful as they could be.

Some of this adds interest to the story, but, at times, it’s not quite believable.

When they have to connect with the police in Germany as part of the investigation, the quirkiness continues, but in a good way.

Davina (Kim Cattrall) and Al (Don McKellar) try to revamp their lives as they struggle with the uncertainties of middle age.

This Canadian adaptation of the mid-aughts BBC series of the same name shares Allen’s fondness for sophisticated city dwellers, hyper-literate dialogue and jazz soundtracks.

But where his portraits tend to be biting, the characters in “Sensitive Skin” are portrayed with uncommon empathy as they flail through their sixth decade of life.

As the first season progresses, Davina’s warmth will become a wistfulness that turns into “Is that all there is?” baby-boomer ennui.

The Toronto loft that empty-nesters Davina and Al purchased after selling their large suburban house did not fulfill Davina’s desire for change, as it turns out.

And her art-gallery job, which once spoke to her creative side, sometimes leaves her cold.

Al, a newspaper columnist, is devoted to Davina, and Cattrall and McKellar share a believable, lived-in chemistry.

But Al’s oddball qualities are increasing with age.

He frequently consults a quack doctor (a wry Elliott Gould) who orders unnecessary tests to keep Al coming back to his office.

Despite his snazzy, city-sophisticate designer coats and specs, Al is growing less sexy by the day.

Davina, by contrast, gets hit on by nearly every man she meets.

“Sensitive Skin,” based on a 2005-07 British series, starring Joanna Lumley, presents a woman’s post-menopausal sex life as not just a given, but as a potential wonderland of possibilities.

Netflix’s new series follows a medium as he travels the US, dispensing joy via spiritual readings like a morbid Marie Kondo. Although not all of his claims are that impressive

Tyler Henry is a world-renowned medium with more than 300,000 people on his waiting list.

After years of being Hollywood’s go-to medium, Tyler heads out across the country to offer readings to as many of the people on his waiting list as he can, bringing them the hope, healing and closure they are seeking.

This transformational and emotional series will bring answers to the people he reads, providing proof that there is more to this world than what we see and that our loved ones never really leave us.

Over the course of the season, we experience the power of Tyler’s readings, get insight to what it means to live with such a gift, and follow along on Tyler’s personal journey unraveling a family mystery to discover where he really comes from.

Henry, who first gained notoriety in 2016 as E!’s “Hollywood Medium,” “reading” celebrities, says he gets messages from the deceased through his five senses. “I might get a very strong vision. I might get what feels like a song stuck in my head,” Henry, 26, says.

The Rust Valley Restorers on Netflix

Rust Valley Restorers fits right into the ubiquitous car fixer-upper reality genre.

It showcases a grungy old guy who owns lots of classic cars that need some serious restoring, but he’s running out of time and money to fix them all.

So he opens a restoration shop — Rust Bros Restorations — to catalyze the automotive revivals and bring in money. At its heart is a remarkable restoration shop run by a team of colorful and charismatic characters.

Using their impressive skills and experience to restore, trade and sell classic cars, they’re transforming piles of rust into collectible car treasures.

Thus, the catalyzing conflict of Rust Valley Restorers isn’t just Mike’s overtly stated need to make money — it’s that he and his team have to battle the corrosive crush of time as enacted by the natural elements.

The vehicles sitting in his field are conspicuous proof of this relentlessness. In other words, the biggest antagonist on the show isn’t debt, competitor car restorers, or Avery’s short-temper, but the organic decay that reclaims men and cars alike.

Mike even says in the opening credits in regards to his cars, “I’m running out of time to restore them all,” and in the series premiere, he proclaims, “I’m 62 years old almost. Now’s the time.”

There’s a constant sense of time running out on Rust Valley Restorers, both in terms of life and object, and the premise taps into an existential anxiety that permeates poetry and philosophy.

Man versus time. It’s a story as old as recorded time.
