Largest Bernese Mountain Dogs – Bernese Mountain Dogs originated in the Swiss Alps, and their lineage can be traced back approximately 2,000 years.

Incredibly, they are one of only four.

Sennehunds – also known as Swiss Mountain Dogs – are sturdy farm dogs from Switzerland.

With weights of up to 115 pounds and standing between 23 and 27 inches at the shoulder, Bernese mountain dogs are the second largest of the Sennehunds.

Only the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is larger but short hair.

Bernese mountain dogs are also further distinguished from the other breeds by their coat as they are the only ones of the four to have gorgeous long hair.

Males, on average, stand 25 to 28 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh 80 to 115 pounds. 

Typically, females stand 23 to 26 inches tall and weigh 70 to 95 pounds.

Individuals of the breed may be smaller or larger.

By the time he had reached adulthood, it was clear that Brutus was no ordinary Bernese Mountain Dog.

Standing at an incredible 38 inches tall and weighing an astounding 240 pounds, Brutus is a true giant among dogs.

Yet despite his size, he is incredibly gentle and affectionate, delighting everyone who meets him with his warm and welcoming nature.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Brutus’s size is his enormous paws, which measure an incredible 12 inches across.

This allows him to easily navigate through deep snow and tricky terrain, making him a natural fit for his mountainous Montana home.

Moreover, he is an accomplished sled dog and enjoys pulling his owners through the snow on a specially designed-sled.

He is also a skilled swimmer, excelling in the cold waters of nearby lakes and rivers.


Largest Bernese Mountain Dogs

Zorba, the largest dog that ever lived are all English Mastiffs, that are heavy dogs by anyone’s standards.

These include Hercules at 282 pounds, Kell at 294 pounds, and the giant Zorba, who weighed a whopping 343 pounds and was 8 feet long.

English Mastiffs are a heavy breed, with AKC standard weights of 160-230 pounds for males and 120-170 pounds for females.
