Drinking Reds Throughout Italy
Drinking Reds Throughout Italy – Drinking red wine throughout Italy is deeply woven into the country’s culinary traditions – even French wine.
Red wine should generally be consumed between 12°C and 18°C (55°F to 64°F) depending on the body and style.
The ideal range varies by the type of red wine:
Light-bodied reds: 12°C to 14°C (53°F to 57°F) for wines like Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Beaujolais.
Medium-bodied reds: 14°C to 16°C (57°F to 61°F) for wines like Grenache, Sangiovese, and Merlot.
Full-bodied reds: 16°C to 18°C (61°F to 64°F) for wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Malbec
Serving reds slightly below modern room temperature helps preserve the fruit flavors, balances tannins, and prevents the alcohol from overpowering the taste.

Henri Magnien Les Cazetiers Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru France
Vintage 2023
Rating 94
Average Cost in US$ 147
Henri Magnien is a family domain with a modest outlook at the heart of the Côte de Nuits.
The wines crafted here are remarkable, and we recommend keeping them in the cellar for a few years.
This cuvée comes from the chalk- and marl-rich terroir in the premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin known as Les Cazetiers.
Its location and meticulous vinification make for a wine that is racy, complex, and dense.
Its ruby-red colour announces a varied aromatic bouquet. We find notes of red fruit (cherry, raspberry), black fruit (blackcurrant), cherry liqueur, gentle spice, musc, and mushroom.
Structured by persistent tannins, this cuvée deserves to be aged for around ten years and should be aerated a little before serving.
ou could savour it with a dish of slow-cooked meat, a squash soup, or a sweet potato gratin.
