What Makes the Best Luxury Headphones
Luxury Touches: Think soft leather earpads, metal finishes.
Elevated Comfort: Comfortable wear is key, with padded headbands, added cushioning.
Replaceable Parts: Repairs made easy with removable (and replaceable) parts like bands, cords, cables, ear pads, and so on.
Durability: High-end headphones are designed and manufactured with quality standards, and these devices can withstand regular wear and tear (which means, less replacing an entire set year in and year out, and just focusing on some replacements or repairs as needed).
Tech and Features: Sure, there’s most definitely going to be more bells and whistles in higher end products than more inexpensive offerings, but the science behind the tech can be more fine tuned and elevated (more info on that below).
Sound Quality: Last, but certainly not least, many luxury brands boast an unparalleled listening experience.
Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless Copper
Rating 6.6
The Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless are alright for mixed usage.
They don’t have active noise cancelling or any features for gamers, but they’re decent for casual listening.
The way they fit tends to leave significant gaps around your ears, which affects how well they isolate noise.
Two people might also find they have different sound profiles.
That said, they’re well-built, have a great battery life, and are still okay for most uses.
Denon AHGC20 Globe Cruiser Wireless
Rating 7.6
The Denon Globe Cruiser are well-crafted, comfortable headphones with a sturdy, durable design.
They block a lot of noise in loud environments like on a plane or train.
Unfortunately, they have below-average sound quality and leak quite a bit, which might disturb the people around you.
The Denon Globe Cruiser are above-average commuting and traveling headphones.
They deliver a strong noise isolation performance that will reduce a significant amount of ambient noise.
They’re comfortable and have a good, durable design.
Best Luxury Headphones – Bowers & Wilkins Px8 McLaren Edition
Rating 7.6
Bowers & Wilkins, the iconic high-end speaker manufacturer from England just released another new, redesigned flagship model for their P Series of wireless noise-canceling headphones—the Bowers & Wilkins Px8.
Similar to the Px7 S2, Bowers & Wilkins bundles a nice headphone case that will protect your investment while you are on-the-go.
Similar to the travel case that comes with the Px7 S2, there is some extra room inside that accommodates the Px8’s larger ear cups—and the deep central pouch magnetically shuts to stow all of the accessories with your headphones.
One difference about the travel case that comes with the Px8 is that the zipper tab is made with Nappa leather, another nice luxury touch.
Inside the pouch, there is a very long 4-foot USB-C to 3.5mm headphone cable and another generous 4-foot USB-C charging cable just like Px7 S2.
Meze 190 Pro
Rating 7.6
The Meze Empyrean are good for neutral sound.
Thanks to their open-back design, their passive soundstage seems wide, open, and spacious.
That said, they have a warm sound profile that delivers a bit of extra boom to mixes.
Their rolled-off treble veils vocals and lead instruments while sibilants like cymbals are dulled.
Although planar magnetic drivers typically help bass accuracy, these headphones also really lack low-bass.
You need an amp to drive these headphones to their full potential, too.
Best Luxury Headphones – Bang & Olufsen BEOPLAY H95
Rating 7.8
The Bang & Olufsen H95 are good headphones for travel and commuting.
They last over 42 hours on a single charge, which is amazing for long journeys.
They’re also constructed with premium materials that contribute to a great overall build quality and a comfortable fit.
They’re not the most portable headphones, but their sleek carrying case makes it easier to bring them on the road without worrying about bumps and scrapes.
Their ANC is amazing at blocking out mid- and treble-range noises but does a less impressive (though still good) job of isolating you from low-frequency sounds like engine rumble.
Apple AirPods Max
Rating 7.8
The Apple AirPods Max are good for commute and travel.
They can reduce bass-range noise like bus or plane engines well, thanks to their ANC system, and their excellent continuous battery life is enough to get you through long trips.
However, they’re heavy, and it can be fatiguing to wear them over long periods.
Their carrying case doesn’t protect the headphones from damage either, as they only cover the ear cups and leave the headband exposed.
Best Luxury Headphones – Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Denim
Rating 7.9
The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 are very good for commutes and travel.
These well-built headphones have over 60 hours of continuous playback time and a comfortable enough fit for long days on the go.
They also come with a sturdy, hard carrying case to help protect the headphones when not in use.
Their ANC system does a great job of cutting out noise across the full range, too, and only struggles to isolate you against the very lowest frequencies.
Best Luxury Headphones – Bose QuietComfort Headphones
Rating 8.2
The Bose QuietComfort Headphones are great for commuting and traveling.
These comfortable and lightweight over-ears are equipped with an ANC system to block out a lot of ambient noise like rumbly bus engines around you.
They also come with a sturdy hard case to protect them when you’re on the go.
They last over 26 hours continuously with their ANC on, which is great for long listening sessions.
